Patch Management

Patch management is the operational discipline of tracking which systems need which updates, testing those updates for compatibility, and deploying them within an acceptable risk window — a process that becomes harder the larger and more heterogeneous an environment gets. Vulnerability scanning and patch management are closely linked but distinct: scanning identifies that a patch is missing, while patch management is the process that actually closes the gap.
